Tilburg University is realising a new Education- and Self-study Centre (ESC) on her campus replacing the existing Prisma and Warande buildings. Bauhütte has been commissioned to produce a drawn Terms of Reference (ToR) specifically translating and complementing qualitative demands next to the quantitative demands which have been formulated by Tilburg University. This has resulted in three architectural models based on the terms as defined in the ToR. Thus, the architectural guidelines have been compiled down to three typologies that constitute the dna of the campus: the compact building, the atrium building and the patio building.
Design rules that have been formulated with regard to the landscape and architecture of Tilburg University form the basis for the qualitative intervention of the ESC. Aim is to establish a close connection to the existing campus and the architectural quality of its buildings in order to present Tilburg University as a single evolutionary whole. The legacy of architect Jos. Bedaux, who conceived the first buildings of Tilburg University (e.g. Cobbenhagen), is therefore held in high regard. The ESC provides Tilburg University with state-of-the-art educational facilities that are in line with the new vision of the university.
